INTRAMURAL 6X6 SOCCER RULES

Play is governed by current National Federation (High School) Rules with the following modifications:

1. The match is played between two teams of 6 players each, one of which must be a goalkeeper. Both teams must be ready for play at the scheduled time. Game time is forfeit time. Teams must start and end the match with at least 5 players.
Penalty: Forfeit

2. The game consists of two 25-MINUTE halves with a 3-minute intermission. The clock will only stop at the referee’s discretion (injuries, protests, ejections, lost ball, etc….).

3. There will be no overtime during the regular season. During the playoffs, games tied at the end of regulation will continue with one, 5-minute sudden victory overtime. If the score is still tied, the game will be decided by penalty kicks.

4. Each team must wear uniformly colored numbered shirts, which contrast with the opponent's shirts. Neither team may wear black shirts. Numbered scrimmage vests will be available for checkout on-site.

5. CRS will provide a regulation ball for all matches. However, if both team captains agree, a substitute ball (provided by either team) may be used instead. Individual teams must provide practice balls.

6. The field size is 80 yards by 40 yards. Goals are the same as those used for field hockey. At each end of the field is a penalty area, 36 feet by 84 feet. Direct kick fouls occurring inside this area will result in a penalty kick. The penalty kick mark is 24 feet from the midpoint of the goal line. There is no goal area.

7. All substitutions must take place at the mid-field area. The exiting player must be off the field prior to the substitute entering the field. Both teams may substitute an unlimited number of players on goal kicks, after a goal is scored, at halftime, when a player is cautioned (yellow card), when a player is disqualified (red card), and during an injury. Only the team possessing the ball may substitute on a corner kick. The team not possessing the ball may substitute on a throw-in only if the possessing team substitutes first.

8. YELLOW CARDS. Any player receiving a yellow card must be substituted for, and may not return until the next legal substitution opportunity. If the referee stops the game for an injury, the injured player must be substituted for.

9. Shoes with metal cleats, metal tipped cleats, plastic cleats with sharp edges (i.e. baseball cleats), or any other shoes deemed unsafe by the Supervisor may not be used. Shoes with rubber, nylon, or blunt plastic cleats may be worn. Jewelry must be removed before a player can participate.
(Exception: Medical Alert which must be taped to the body if worn).

10. Goalkeeper Restrictions: On any occasion when a player deliberately kicks the ball to his/her own goalkeeper, the goalkeeper is not permitted to touch it with his/her hands. This rule also applies to the throw-in. Players may not use trickery to circumvent the rule.

11. Goal kicks can be taken from anywhere inside the penalty area.

12. Offside: Offside will NOT be called in 6x6 Soccer.

13. No slide tackles! Any player using a slide tackle (in the judgment of the referee) will receive a yellow card. A slide tackle is defined as a maneuver in which one or both feet slide on the ground in an attempt to tackle the ball that is in possession of an opponent.

SPECIAL COED MODIFICATIONS

14. The match is played between two teams of 6 players each. Teams must begin and end each match with a minimum of 5 players.

15. Teams must begin and end each match with a minimum of five players on the playing field. Teams may play with 3 men and 3 women, or 3 of one gender and 2 of the other.

16. Penalty shots may be attempted by any member of the offended team provided that member is the same gender as the player fouled.
