Intramural Eligibility
Eligibility - Individuals:
Participants must be currently enrolled as a student at UM, or employed as a faculty/staff member at UM. Participatns must present proper identification prior to signing up for an activity and also prior to the beginning of each and every contest. If a player does not have the necessary identification materials, s/he will be ineligible to participate in that contest. Requisite identification for eligible user groups is:
UM Students: a university photo ID.
UM Faculty/Staff: a photo ID and a current faculty/staff card, or the Faculty/Staff Photo ID Card.
NOTE: Intramural Supervisors have the right to reexamine any participant's IDs. If someone is caught using an ID card that is not his/her own, it may be confiscated by the Intramural Supervisor. FYI: This is a violation of the University of Maryland Code of Student Conduct and can be sent to the Judicial Board.
Eligibility - Other Rules:
- Participants may play for a maximum of two teams (one being coed) in any team sport. G/F/S leagues are considered to be Open (not coed).
- Individuals who are members of an officially recognized UMCP sport club may participate in their related sport; however, a maximum of two club members can participate on any one team during the season. For Intramural purposes, a sport club athlete is anyone who is paying club dues or who competes with the team in any club competition.
- Current Intercollegiate Athletes and "red shirts" are not eligible to compete in their intercollegiate sport or related sport. A "red shirt" is defined as a varsity athlete who is sitting out a year. Determination of this status is made by the coach of each intercollegiate sport.
- To compete in playoff games, a team member must have participated in a minimum of one regular season game with the team. If the team has a game rained out, players can be added at the first playoff game only.
- A player is bound to the FIRST team for which s/he plays; players may not switch teams during the season. In cases where players participate for multiple teams, BOTH teams will be eliminated from further competition and assessed the forfeit fee.
- In G/F/S Leagues, participants must be faculty/staff members, or currently enrolled graduate students or undergraduate students who work for a department for wages or academic credit. At no time may more than 50% of the team roster be made up of undergraduate students.
- Current or former professional or semi-professional athletes are ineligible to participate in their respective sport or associate sports (Example: Baseball's associate sport would be softball).
