TEAM CAPTAINS

The success of the intramural team sport program depends upon the leadership of intramural Team Captains. The Team Captain is the critical link between the Intramural (IM) Sports Office and intramural team sport participants.


Responsibilities:

  • Selecting a team name (CRS reserves the right to edit tam names deemed to be inappropriate or offensive).
  • Determining which days (Sunday-Thursday) team members are available to play.
  • Inviting Free Agents to play, if more players are needed.
  • Registering the team during the designated entry period at www.crs.umd.edu
  • Attending (or sending a designated representative to) the Team Captains Meeting.
  • Checking the posted regular season and playoff schedules and informing all team members of game times and locations.
  • Insuring that all team members are eligible to play.
  • Insuring that each team member only plays for a maximum of two teams, one being coed.
  • Insuring that all team members bring UM photo ID to the every game.
    NO ID – NO PLAY. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Insuring that all team members arrive early to avoid losing by forfeit. Game time is forfeit time!
  • Paying the forfeit fee ($15) if the team forfeits and any other costs incurred by the actions of team members or spectators.
  • Insuring that all team members are aware of IM sports policies, facility regulations, and sport rules.
  • Insuring that team members and associated spectators behave in a sportsmanlike manner and treat opposing players, officials, and intramural supervisors with respect.
  • Promoting good sportsmanship among team members and fans and reminding team members of the Sportsmanship Policy and Rating system. Poor sportsmanship ratings will prevent the team from advancing to or continuing in the playoff tournament.
  • Cooperating with the IM sports staff when a player has been ejected and reminding the ejected team member he/she is suspended from all intramural sports until reinstated by a an IM Sports professional staff member.
  • Submitting protests if necessary.
  • If the weather is bad, calling the Intramural Sports RAINline (301-314-RAIN) to find out if games are being played. Insuring players always assume games are ON.
  • Checking the Schedules & Scores page after a rain day to insure that your game has not also been postponed.
  • During the playoff tournament, going to the IM Sports Office to request a reschedule if needed to avoid a forfeit.
  • Regularly checking email for important notices from the IM Sports staff.

Team Captains Meetings

All Team Captains Meetings will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in Reckord Armory, Room 0131. Bring your UM Photo ID.
