GENERAL INFORMATION
Team Sports
Each semester, several team sport tournaments are offered for players of all skill levels.
- Fall sports usually include 6-on-6 Soccer, Flag Football, and 3-on-3 Basketball.
- Spring sports traditionally include 5-on-5 Basketball, 9-on-9 Soccer, and Volleyball. Additional sports may be offered in either semester, as interest is determined.
Team sport tournaments consist of a round robin regular season where all teams are scheduled to play at least 3 games. At the end of the season, teams that have not forfeited are scheduled to play in a single-elimination playoff tournament to determine the league champion.
Individual and Dual Sports
Each semester, a number of individual singles and doubles tournaments are offered for players of all skill levels. Fall tournaments usually include Tennis Singles, Tennis Doubles, Racquetball Singles, Racquetball Doubles, and Golf. Spring Sports usually include Badminton Singles, Badminton Doubles, and Sand Volleyball or an innertube water sport.
Singles and doubles tournaments may be single-elimination or double elimination, depending on the number of entries received in that league. Some may include a short round robin tournament (pool play). These tournaments are usually scheduled on weekends, although some events take place midweek (See Schedule).

Leagues
Teams and individuals may sign up to play in one of the following leagues: Fraternity, Graduate/Faculty/Staff (GFS), Mens, or Womens. Coed teams may sign up to play in the Coed Open league or the College Park Scholars Coed League. For team sports and doubles tournaments, players may participate in a maximum of two tournaments for each sport, with one being coed (e.g. a male player may participate on a Mens soccer team AND a Coed soccer team; a female player may participate in the Womens Tennis Doubles tournament AND the Coed Tennis Doubles tournament with a male partner). For more information on league eligibility, go to Policies and Procedures.

Levels of Competition
Two levels of competition are offered in each league: A (competitive) and B (recreational). Teams or individuals may sign up at either the A or B level. Teams and individuals who have experience with the sport and wish to compete at the highest level should sign up for the A level of competition. Teams and individuals who have limited or no experience with the sport and wish to play for fun should sign up for the B level of competition. In a few cases where there are not enough teams/individuals to offer both levels, all entries in that league may be grouped together at one level.

Awards
All league champions receive a Terrapin Gold Medal, the official University of Maryland Intramural Sports award since 1931. The number of medals awarded to a team sport champion is 1.5 times the number of players permitted on the field/court at one time. Terrapin gold medals may be exchanged at the Intramural Sports Office for an Intramural Champion T-shirt.
