The Division of Student Affairs Wellness Initiative was recently launched to establish the University of Maryland as a healthy place for students, faculty and staff, to live, learn, and work. The campus Wellness Coalition is a cross-campus collaborative created to achieve that mission. In an effort to establish campus-wide awareness and recognition of the Wellness Coalition, including our mission and campaigns, we have decided to develop our visual identity. We are looking for a unique design for our group’s logo. We want to maintain the association with the University of Maryland by using the University’s colors of red, gold and black, but the designer can take creative liberties with their use. |
The target audience for our coalition segments into the University of Maryland students, faculty and staff. |
Design a unique and original logo that is memorable and has positive visual impact that will attract the attention of the campus community. This logo should have within its representation various visual elements that are symbolic or iconic in there association with the concept of wellness. The logo should speak for itself in conveying that the University of Maryland is a community that values the pursuit of a healthy mind, body, and spirit for all students, faculty and staff. Designs must be gender, race, and age neutral and should not appear to be the “property” of any one department or college. They must be adaptable to various media. The entrant must have solely created this logo and the logo must not have been previously published. The design must not infringe on any intellectual property rights, including copyrights and trademarks. The name of our group is, The University of Maryland Wellness Coalition. The logo design should be designed for use with or without the name. The tone should be fun and intellectual but still accessible. The feeling or mood of this logo should stimulate positive emotion and interest. It should not be aggressive or threatening. |
Finalists will be selected by representatives of the Wellness Coalition. Entries will be judged on appearance, suitability for planned use, and positive representation of the University of Maryland and the Wellness Coalition. Finalists will be invited to present their designs and answer questions regarding them to representatives from the Wellness Coalition. The winner will be announced the week of September 7, 2009. The creator of the winning design will receive a Nintendo Wii Game System and have the honor of being the artist behind the visual representation of the University of Maryland Wellness Coalition. |
