The University of Maryland’s Outdoor Recreation Center strives to provide unique adventure opportunities to the entire UMD community. We provide trips and clinics, gear, and resources to help you get off campus and into the mountains, waterways, and trails of the mid-Atlantic and beyond!

Wilderness First Responder Course: May 29- June 6

The ORC is hosting an 8-day WFR certification course this June. The course will be taught by instructors from Wilderness Medicine Associates (WMA), the premiere leader in wilderness medicine training. Upon succesful completion of the course, students will receive a 3-year WFR certification. 

Lodging and meals are not provided. Contact us for  information about area hotels, restaurants and parking on campus.  Need housing? Let us know. Have housing and are willing to spare a bed or couch? Let us know? The ORC staff will work to assist students with free housing. Greenbelt National Park offers campsites and is a short bike ride or drive from campus.

Where is the ORC? -


The ORC is located on the north end of the Eppley Recreation Center, just down the stairs from the Outdoor Aquatic Center. Check out our 55' outdoor climbing wall, ropes course, gear rental center, and resource library.
